The Gifts of a Working Mother

     I am a second generation working mother.  My mother was at the forefront of women who were emerging from their homes and going out into the workforce.  She chose a path that few women had chosen back in 1929, which was to become a Physician.  This was her biggest gift to me.  At that time her dream was big and she was one of the few that came to open the doorway for the future of women in medicine.  Her greatest gift to me was in showing me how to dram beyond the box.  She always said to me that I could be anything I chose to be and what her actions taught me was that I could open doors to new ideas and ways of being as she had done.

     To be a door opener or way shower was not an easy path in those days.  The next gift my mother shared with me was her great courage and persistence in the face of resistance.  I remember her telling me about her days in medical school.  Her colleagues would tell her that she should be ashamed of herself for taking a man's space in medical school.  They gold her that she was just a woman who would some day give up medicine to raise a family.  Her professors often would harass the women, (there were only two of them), in attempt to break their spirit so they would give up.  Bless these men, for they helped her to become even more grounded in her vision and to stand in her own strength.  From this strength came recognition.  She was the first woman to be voted into the Medical Honor Society.  From her persistence came graduation and a lifetime as a physician.  Finally, from dreaming beyond the box, she leaves a legacy of women in Medicine and the healing arts.  Can you think of a better place for the divine feminine to be?  

     My question to you is:  What gifts are you passing on to your children?  Value the role you play in your children's lives as a working mother.  Value the contribution you are making to humanity. from dreaming beyond the box, she leaves a legacy of women in Medicine and the healing arts.  Can you think of a better place for the divine feminine to be?
